New Municipal Dredge Arrives on Cape Cod

The new Barnstable County dredge looks similar to this design from Ellicott Dredge.

Barnstable County, on Cape Cod, has received a new dredge, according to the Cape Cod Times. Currently docked at entrance to Falmouth Inner Harbor, the high-tech dredge Sand Shifter cost nearly $2 million and was built by Ellicott Dredge of Maryland.

After testing, the dredge will be used to maintain the Cape’s harbors, inlets and channels, joining the 22-year-old Codfish in the county’s municipal dredge program, which generates up to $1.8 million in revenue per year for the Cape’s regional government.
