August 18, 2010
ACR’s new 406link is a web-based service that allows the user to send a pre-configured non-emergency “I’m OK” text message from any ACR 406 MHz EPIRB or PLB.

The link relies on GEOSAR sat system to deliver messages beyond the range of cell-phone coverage. Preconfigured messages can be sent to up to 5 recipients. Basic service is $39.95 per year. An enhanced service that sends the user’s lat/lon coordinates is available for $59.95 per year.
