New Species Moving into Maine Waters
October 28, 2015
The Portland Press Herald reports on the destruction and disruptions to native habitats caused by warming waters and invasive species in Maine. One example cited is the spread of green crabs to Maine waters. The crabs have decimated eelgrass on many flats in southern Maine, destroying critical habitat for clams. Other recent changes include the spread of black sea bass and longfin squid to the Gulf of Maine.
