The 40th Annual Newport International Boat Show kicked off Thursday, Sept. 16, and New England Boating was on-hand (with video camera in-hand) to check out the festivities.

The show is packed with over 600 exhibitors. Photo by ##http://newenglandboating.com/author/dave## Dave Dauer##

This year’s show, which runs through Sunday, covers over 13 acres of the Newport waterfront and features some 600 exhibitors displaying everything from trawlers to tote bags. Dozens of informative boating seminars are held throughout the weekend, along with product giveaways and plenty of great discounts on boats and gear. The show also features a food court, bars and quick access to downtown Newport’s many fine restaurants, shops and historic sites.

In terms of weather, Friday was a bit gray to start, but skies were clearing as of late morning and conditions were expected to be beautiful through the weekend, with temps in the upper 60s and lower 70s—perfect for on-water boat tests or simply walking the docks.

If you plan on visiting the show by water, note that the harbor is crowded and extremely busy this weekend. Also, many of the downtown marinas are filled and anchoring room is at a premium. Be sure to call ahead or contact the Newport Harbormaster’s office (401-845-5815) for information. Boaters can be dropped off near the show at the newly renovated Perotti Park at the northern end of the harbor near Long Wharf. You can find more information on boating in and around Newport through New England Boating’s article Focus on: Newport, Rhode Island.
