Newport’s Ann Street Pier Extension Delayed

A lawsuit over littoral property rights continues to delay the city of Newport, RI’s plans to extend the Ann Street Pier, which accommodates visiting boaters and provides ready access to downtown Newport, as well as the Maritime Center.

The lawsuit was filed several years ago by 2 abutting property owners, both of which have marinas, after the state filed its plans for an extension. The owners questions how property boundaries are determined on the water, and worry that the pier extension will restrict the maneuverability of their marina guests.
