Republican American: [Waterbury] firefighters plucked 2 residents from a rain swollen Naugatuck River on Sunday night [June 16] in a dramatic rescue from the air.

Francisco and Shawnda Barbosa of 60 South Street were clinging to a rock at 6:30 p.m. after their canoe capsized about a mile into their trip down the river.
