Swimmers of all ages can still sign up to show their support for a clean and healthy Buzzards Bay by participating in the 20th annual Buzzards Bay Swim, taking place Saturday, July 13 at 7:00 a.m. in New Bedford. Swimmer registration closes Sunday, July 7.

All funds raised from the swim will support the Buzzards Bay Coalition’s work to restore clean water, conserve natural lands and engage the community in protecting the Bay.

During the Swim, more than 300 swimmers ranging in age from 12 to 73 will swim 1.2 miles across outer New Bedford Harbor, from Davy’s Locker in New Bedford to Fort Phoenix State Reservation in Fairhaven. Swimmers of every ability level are welcome to sign up. Participants can choose to swim on their own or with a kayak guide to help them stay on course.

After the Swim, all participants will celebrate their success at a finish line beach party, complete with food and drinks, massage therapists, an awards ceremony, live music and a live radio broadcast with Michael Rock of FUN 107. Members of the public are welcome to the event to cheer on swimmers as they arrive at the finish line.

All funds raised from the swim will support the Buzzards Bay Coalition’s work to restore clean water, conserve natural lands and engage the community in protecting the Bay. Swimmers this year face an exciting challenge: if swimmers collectively raise $135,000 and 30 individual swimmers each raise at least $1,000, longtime swimmer Larry Fish of West Falmouth will donate an additional $25,000 to support the Coalition’s critical mission.

Not a swimmer? The Buzzards Bay Coalition can still use your help. Volunteers are needed to help check in swimmers, inspect kayaks, serve breakfast and assist with other critical tasks at the start and finish lines.
