Save the River-Save the Hills is inviting all lovers of Connecticut’s Niantic River to celebrate the 10th Annual Niantic River Appreciation Day Kayak Regatta this Saturday, August 24 (rain date Sunday, August 25), from 10:00 to 2:00.

Paddlers can launch at Three Belles Marina on Smith Cove and follow the Goshen Fire Boat in the Kayak Parade. At they head upriver, participants can enjoy the music of the Denise and Tony Band as they take in the beauty of the Oswegatchie Hills.

Free clam chowder donated by Flanders Fish Market will be served, along with free hot dogs served by volunteers at Save the River-Save the Hills.

Paddlers can decorate their kayak in a 10th Anniversary Theme for prizes.

Other highlights include:

  • kayak races
  • kayak demonstrations
  • kayak safety clinics
  • free drawing for a kayak and paddles (members only) and other goodies

Save the River-Save the Hills, Inc. is a non-profit grassroots environmental organization based on the Niantic River Estuary in Waterford and East Lyme dedicated to abating and preventing pollution of the river, its Watershed and advocating the preservation of Oswegatchie Hills.
