Each New Year’s Day, Temple Israel’s “Freezin’ for a Reason” co-organizer Thomas Patterson sees new faces at the annual polar plunge event at Compo Beach, and this year was no different.

Upwards of 60 people took a quick dunk in the freezing cold waters of Long Island Sound for Temple Israel’s fundraiser, which raised $33,900 for United Cerebral Palsy of New York City—an organization that serves more than 14,000 disabled adults and children. The event has raised $400,000 for various charities over the past 6 years.
