The 51st annual meeting of the Catboat Association will be held February 1-3, 2013, at the Mystic Marriott in Groton, Connecticut. Cost per person is $50. The meeting features numerous seminars and an intimate boat and equipment show. Here are some highlights:

Mystic Seaport to provide a private showing of the progress on this massive restoration project.

- 9:00 – 5:00 All Catboat Resource Show
This year’s displays will be exhibited in the Marriott Ballroom Salons ABC and D. Catboat enthusiasts displaying and selling everything from anchors to artwork and more.
- 8:45 – 10:00 Catboat Sailing for Beginners
Start your annual meeting off right with an interactive discussion for those new to catboats, focused on the handling of the gaff rig, including the basic maneuvers for getting underway and returning safely. Hosted by Catboat Summers and Buckrammer’s Tales author and master of Buckrammer, John Conway.

An informative technology seminar hosted by Nate Titcomb.
- 10:15 AM – 11:30 AM Principles of Sailing Small Catboats
Barnegat Bay sailor Pat Marinello discusses considerations for boats sensitive to live ballasting … reefing, centerboards and sail trim combinations.
- 10:15 AM – 11:30 AM Catboat Builders Seminar
Featuring Peter Legnos of Legnos Boats Inc., this seminar gives catboats builders a chance to showcase their history, products, people and future designs.
- 1:30 PM – 2:45 PM Featured Presentation
George Shiverick of Kingston, MA, an Under-Appreciated Catboat Builder
Presented by long-time CBA member and catboat sailor, Doris Johnson.
- 3:15 PM – 4:30 PM Engine Maintenance
No matter how much experience you have dealing with marine engines, you always learn something in this seminar. Hosted by extremely knowledgeable professionals who also understand and love catboats.
- 3:15 PM – 4:30 PM. The Magic of Painting
Mariott Ballroom Salon E – Hosted by Peter (Layne) Arguimbau, master of Molly Rose.
Oil painting demonstration beginning with charcoal drawing and some basic principles of perspective, proportion and abstract rythms. Disussion of techniques for dead color, transparency and glazing while painting a study. There will be tie for questions, so bring a painting for criticism.
