CapeCodOnline.com: Kenneth Eldredge had finished checking on his boat and, feeling the chilly wind coming from the northeast, decided against taking a spin. When he stepped off his 21-foot Boston Whaler Outrage Wednesday afternoon and onto the town’s dinghy to head back to shore, he lost his footing and the smaller vessel shifted underneath his step.

That left the 90-year-old Orleans resident without a sure place to stand and the waters of Round Cove rapidly approaching underneath him. Eldredge grabbed the side of his boat and held on as the dinghy shifted away. His legs plunged into the water and he clutched the boat, desperately trying not to end up in the drink.
