On May 29, 2013, the Duxbury Bay Maritime School’s ACCESSAIL Director, Gene Orosz, was awarded the 2013 Duxbury Community Volunteer Award. He was one of 16 nominees. The award was created in 1995 by the Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group as a way to give back to the community by providing a forum for recognizing the important role volunteers play in a community.

In 2008, Orosz took on the role of volunteer director of ACCESSAIL. In the off-season he hires staff, lays out his plans and preps boats for the busy 10-week summer season, when his job shifts into high gear.

Orosz’s work benefits those individuals who are physically and/or cognitively challenged, so that they have a chance to enjoy Duxbury Bay from a sailing perspective. It is estimated that Orosz has logged more than 6,250 hours over the past 7 years as an ACCESSAIL volunteer director.
