CapeCodOnline reports that Millway Marina and Barnstable Marine Service, both based on Barnstable Harbor, Massachusetts, have settled a lawsuit filed by the Conservation Law Foundation over the failure of the 2 businesses to control runoff from their properties.

The suit argued that the 2 companies violated the federal Clean Water Act, in that they failed to prevent snow and rain runoff from carrying various pollutants into Maraspin Creek and Barnstable Harbor.

As a result of the settlement, both companies will improve runoff prevention, will create compliance and monitoring programs, will pay money to the Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APP), and will cover CLF’s attorney fees.
