The city council of Belfast, Maine, has approved plans to expand Thompson’s Wharf, according to an article on PenBayPilot.com.
At the council’s meeting on Tuesday (December 3, 2013), Harbormaster Katherine Pickering painted a bleak picture of the city-owned dock, located in the inner harbor between properties owned by Front Street Shipyard. The steel pilings have significantly corroded, she said, and the fasteners that hold the floats together have deteriorated so much over the years that the planks come loose on a regular basis.
