SouthCoastToday.com: [Massachusetts] officials worked to calm community fears Tuesday (August 6, 2013) that blasting associated with South Terminal construction [in New Bedford, Massachusetts] could topple the Palmer’s Island lighthouse.
Built in 1849 by the United States Lighthouse Establishment to help guide ships home during the height of whaling, the lighthouse has served as a point of pride for New Bedford’s South End.
