The Buzzards Bay Coalition has a host of outdoor activities and fun adventures for the whole family to enjoy around the Buzzards Bay Watershed during the month of May.

Weweantic River Reserve Cleanup

  • Saturday, May 3 • 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Join the Coalition’s Commonwealth Corps and AmeriCorps MassLIFT members in a morning of service along the Weweantic River in Wareham. Help make this place even more special by picking up litter and performing trail maintenance. Trash bags will be provided. Bring gloves and dress appropriately.
  • Location: Horseshoe Mill (Meet in parking lot at end of Station Street)
  • Cost: Free

Itty Bitty Bay Explorers

  • Wednesdays: May 14, May 21, and May 28 • 10-11 a.m.
  • Help kids discover the outdoors through the Coalition’s Itty Bitty Bay Explorers program, a series of 3 free outings on Wednesdays in May. Through fun games and hands-on activities, your whole family can learn about Buzzards Bay’s animals, plants and habitats.
  • Itty Bitty Bay Explorers is recommended for families with young children. During outdoor exploration days near the water, participants should dress to get wet and sandy/muddy.


  • Wednesday, May 14: “Forest Exploration” at Bourne Sisters Woodland (approximately 205 County Road, Bourne)
  • Wednesday, May 21: “Salt Marsh Discovery” at Little Sippewissett Marsh (meet at Woodneck Beach, Falmouth)
  • Wednesday, May 28: “Beach Walk Adventure” at Monument Beach (Shore Road, Bourne)
  • Cost: Free

Fort to Fort Bike Tour

  • Sunday, May 18 • 10 am-noon
  • Discover New Bedford Harbor on this scenic guided bike tour from Fort Taber in New Bedford’s South End to Fort Phoenix  in Fairhaven. Along the way, Coalition staff will talk about the past, present, and future of the New Bedford Harbor cleanup during stops along the harbor, including a lunch break at beautiful Fort Phoenix. Then we will return to Fort Taber to complete this 12-mile round-trip tour. Bring water and lunch/snacks.

Frogs at the Bogs

  • Friday, May 30 • 7-8pm
  • Listen to the sounds of frogs and learn fun facts about them during this guided nighttime walk at The Bogs in Mattapoisett.
  • Location: The Bogs, Mattapoisett
  • Cost: Free
