Photo/East Dennis Oyster Farm After years of growing oysters around Barnstable Harbor [Massachusetts], Al Surprenant and Les Hemmila decided to thank the community by sponsoring a festival that would celebrate the flavor of local oysters and raise money for local causes.

Barnstable Oysterfest will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday [September 21, 2013] in a tent overlooking the harbor at Mass Audubon’s Long Pasture. All proceeds will benefit Massachusetts Audubon Society, Barnstable Land Trust and the Barnstable Village Civic Association. Tickets are $100 for the reception with raw and cooked oysters from local restaurants, and beer and wine, all served to the strains of live chamber music.
