Like the changing of the leaves, the annual closing of Coast Guard Station Fishers Island signals the end of the summer season.
The station, located on the southwest side of Fishers Island, New York, conducted its annual seasonal closure on September 3, 2013. Station Fishers Island, a search and rescue detachment, operates during the boating season from Memorial Day through Labor Day. During the off-season, maritime response capabilities are transferred to its primary command, Coast Guard Station New London, in New London, Connecticut.
Mariners within Long Island Sound are reminded to report all marine emergencies to the Command Center at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound using VHF-FM radio channel 16 or by calling 203-468-4401.
