Coast Guard and local harbormaster crews assisted four adults and 11 children when their vessel began taking on water near Minot’s Ledge, Cohasset, MA, at approximately 2 p.m., Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Boston received notification at approximately 1:40 p.m., via VHF channel 16, of a 30-foot pleasure craft rapidly taking on water.

Responding were crews from:

  • Coast Guard Station Point Allerton, Mass.
  • Coast Guard Station Scituate, Mass.
  • Cohasset Harbormaster
  • Scituate Harbormaster

All 15 people were safely transferred to the responding Coast Guard and harbormaster vessels, and commercial salvage was contacted to refloat and tow the vessel.

None of the individuals aboard required medical attention.

“This case was a great example of cross-agency coordination that enabled a rapid response from the Coast Guard and local harbormasters,” said Lt. j.g. Casey Goranson, Sector Boston command duty officer. “By having a marine radio and lifejackets on board, the vessel operator’s preparedness also contributed to the success of the response.”
