On Friday afternoon, December 13, the Coast Guard was responding to a disabled vessel approximately 86 miles south east of Montauk.

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders in New Haven had received notification from a Good Samaritan vessel relaying communications for the disabled vessel Endorphin, a 58’ commercial fishing homeported in Montauk. The Endorphin crew reported they were adrift and without power, nearly 86 miles offshore, with 3 crewmembers aboard.

A rescue aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod conducted a supply drop consisting of food, water and a handheld radio. The crew, who’ve been underway for 8 days, reported that they had run out of food and had no means of communication.

Weather conditions reported at the vessel Endorphin’s location consist of seas of 8’ to 13’, winds 35 knots and sea temperature at 32 degrees.
