Hartford Courant: Hoping to stem more than a decade of decline, shipping companies and dockyard businesses are lobbying the state to create a port authority. They’re hoping to revive once-thriving maritime industries at Connecticut’s deep-water ports in New Haven, New London and Bridgeport, and the state’s 2 major ferry operators are endorsing the idea.
Rebuilding the ports’ cargo business would take fleets of trucks off congested I-95 and help manufacturers, freight shippers and railroads across the state, according to trade organizations that testified at a General Assembly hearing last week.
