CapeCodOnline: Ruby the dog is safe and sound after being pulled from the frigid waters of Queen Sewell Pond on Wednesday [January 8].

Around noon, the Bourne Fire Department received a call about a dog that had fallen through a thin layer of ice and into the water, said Bourne fire Lt. Dana Dupuis, who then donned an exposure suit to rescue Ruby.

The pond’s icy surface had several 10’ to 12’ areas that were thin enough to see through, and Ruby had fallen through one of those spots, said Dupuis. Hoping to avoid those areas, Dupuis said he carefully crawled on his hands and knees across the ice while tethered to a rope from shore.
