An editorial in the Hartford Courant has blasted the organization behind Connecticut’s tall ship Amistad for allegedly not paying taxes.

According to the editorial, the Internal Revenue Service has suspended Amistad America’s nonprofit status because it hasn’t filed taxes in three years. It goes on to criticize the organization because Connecticut taxpayers paid to help rebuild the ship and still provides 80 percent of the ship’s annual funds.
