When superstorm Sandy struck the region last October, Block Island luckily received just a glancing blow. But a study of the island’s Mansion Beach shows the storm eroded the beach by a whopping 33 feet, according to an article in the Block Island Times.
A major question is whether the dunes will rebuild seaward, or whether this year’s loss of seashore is irreversible.
