The Commonwealth of Massachusetts will award a $250,000 grant to the Fall River Line Pier, Inc. (FRLP), which operates the Fall River State Pier for the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). FRLP will use this grant to complete preliminary work required along the river face of the pier and the existing berthing area along the cove area to allow for improvements, including dredging, and expansion of the pier to include an additional, smaller floating pier.

Specifically, the grant will support surveys and testing for maintenance and improvement dredging, including grain size, chemical, and biological tests at the Fall River State Pier. Maintenance dredging is required along the river face of the pier and the existing berthing area along the cove area.

The Fall River State Pier project is the first to receive grant funding from DCR’s Division of Waterways this year. Grant funding totals $630,000 for 2012, which comes from the Division of Waterways’ $1.65 million budget.
