Rhode Island fishermen are concerned that business interests aimed at exploiting the ocean could hurt the state’s fishing industry, according to a recent opinion piece in the Providence Journal.
Christopher Brown, the president of the Rhode Island Commercial Fishermen’s Association, wrote the piece, in which he says commercial interests in the past have hurt the region’s fishing stocks. And, he says, the current approach by the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management threatens to do more harm in the future.
