Opening Night and Blessing of the Fleet, photo The Fisherman’s Feast.

A recent article on profiles the famed annual Fishermen’s Festival in Boston’s North End.

For 103 years, the festival has been held in the North End, honoring the Madonna del Soccorso di Sciacca. She is Sciacca, Italy’s patron, the woman the town’s fishermen pray to before venturing out to sea. So while there are fresh clams and Italian sausage and torrone desserts that lure tourists to the North End by the thousands, for the families with ties to Sciacca, this is a weekend to hand down old traditions to new generations.
