A bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives Wednesday night (October 23, 2013) includes a provision pushed by Reps. Chellie Pingree, D-Maine, and Mike Michaud, D-Maine, that would allocate funding to small harbors — including several in southern Maine — in need of dredging, according to an article on SeacoastOnline.com.
Wells, Maine, is one of 7 towns with harbors along the southern Maine coast that could benefit from this type of funding, according to Wells Town Manager Jon Carter. He said that while harbors normally should be dredged every 5 or 6 years, it has been 12 years since such work was last performed in Wells Harbor.
