The Bangor Daily News reports on efforts by the Lost Fishermen’s Memorial Association to build a 40-ton granite memorial to honor fishermen who have died in the waters of the Cobscook Bay region.

The fundraising, which began in 2009, has so far totaled around $66,00o. Some $35,000 more is needed. Bar Harbor Bank recently pledged a $10,000 donation if the association can raise another $25,000. The black-granite memorial would be erected in a waterfront park directly across from the Mulholland Point Lighthouse on Campobello Island.
