The East End Maritime Museum of Greenport, New York, has announced its 2013 exhibit entitled “The Bays Around Us, a Tribute to Rachel Carson.” The exhibit will highlight the winning entries of the “East End Challenge”, presentations that best explore the intersection of science and art. The Challenge is open to all high school students of both the North and South Forks of Long Island, including Riverhead.
In this spirit, with its particular relevance in the aftermath of recent storms, the Museum hopes to encourage young people to observe and help shape the future of our increasingly fragile Long Island.
Submissions should include multi-media or visual images plus a narrative. Considerations for selection include quality, message, inventive observation and creative interpretation of our maritime world on the east end.
Approximately 40 entries will be accepted. The exhibit will be in 2 parts. Part 1 will run from May 24 through August 4, 2013. Part 2 will run from August 9 through October 14, 2013. Exhibitions will be held at the East End Maritime Museum in Greenport.
The Museum is also seeking sponsors for scholarships and prizes to be awarded to the most innovative projects.
