New Haven Register: The cluster of swans frequently found at the West Haven [Connecticut] boat ramp has, over decades, become part of the coastline’s character and entertained a faithful fan base that flocks to the site with breadcrumbs and even doughnuts.

However, to wildlife experts, they’re the ugly ducklings of Connecticut waterfowl.

The large, white birds might look graceful and elegant floating in New Haven Harbor in a group of 50 to 75, but they’re on the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s radar, and not for a positive reason.
