Harbormasters in Massachusetts say they continue to see people each summer who mix drinking and boating, according to an article in the Patriot Ledger.

Nationwide, alcohol is the leading contributor in recreational boating fatalities, with 109 people killed last year in accidents attributed to alcohol use, according to U.S. Coast Guard statistics. In Massachusetts, five people were killed and eight injured last year in accidents attributed to alcohol use.

“It doesn’t take much to become impaired out there,” Weymouth Harbormaster Paul Milone said. “You’re supposed to stay hydrated, but not with beer.”
