The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers intends to allocate $3.5 million in federal funding to dredge [Maine’s] Scarborough River as early as this fall, according to a press release from the offices of U.S. senators Susan Collins and Angus King.

The river sustained excessive shoaling as a result of Hurricane Sandy, which made the project eligible for funding provided under the Supplemental Appropriations Act that the senators supported and which was signed into law by President Obama on January 29, the release said. The Army Corps is completing coordination and moving ahead with the development of plans and specifications for the project.
