August 4, 2010: Maine boaters looking for something fun to do this weekend should consider a trip to Rockland for the 63rd annual Maine Lobster Festival (Rockland is the lobster capital of Maine), which runs from Wednesday, August 4 through Sunday, August 8.
The festival features a Childrens Codfish Carry Race, the Lobster Crate Race (where contestants run across floating lobster totes), and lots and lots of food. Over 20,000 pounds of the tasty crustaceans are expected to be served, along with other local seafood and fresh-grown vegetables. Also featured at the event are live music, a parade, a juried art show, and a lobster-cooking contest. Good fun for the whole family.
For information on getting to Rockland by boat and where to stay while in port, go to BoatingLocal’s Focus on: Rockland, Maine. Be sure to call the marinas ahead of your arrival to check on availability, or ask the harbormaster about availability in the local anchorages. The anchorages are marked on the charts in our “Rockland” section.
