Newburyport News: Repairs to the south jetty at the mouth of the Merrimack River are expected to begin as early as next week [December 30] after the Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $2.5 million contract to a Springfield company last month.

Classic Site Solutions Inc.’s contract with the Army Corps of Engineers called for Phase 2 repairs to begin on or about December 19. The repairs, which include replacing displaced core and armor stone to fill in existing gaps in the jetty, are expected to take 3 months to complete. The work consists of repairing portions of the 1,400’-long jetty that was damaged during Tropical Storm Irene and Hurricane Sandy.
