Greenwich Time: The Mianus River Boat and Yacht Club [in Connecticut] is sticking around. The controversy over the club’s $1-a-year lease with the town ended Monday night as Representative Town Meeting members voted 123 to 11 to reauthorize its 10-year lease, with 2 members abstaining from the vote.

The lease policy has been debated off and on for nearly 30 years, but the Mianus club issue galvanized new discussion last winter after the RTM elected to send the proposal to a joint finance and rules subcommittee on leasing. At times, arguments between supporters of $1 leases, who see them as allowing non-profits to provide services without drawing on taxpayer funds, and opponents, who view them as lost revenue, had become heated.
