The Coast Guard ended its search for a missing kayaker after he was found safe kayaking between Stinson Neck and Sheep Island near Stonington, Maine, at 1:15 p.m. on Friday.
A Coast Guard MH-60 helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod located the kayaker and relayed his position to a Maine Marine Patrol vessel. The MMP arrived on-scene and confirmed the kayaker to be Matt Grabowski.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England were notified of the missing person after he had missed his scheduled check in with his friend’s father Thursday. He was expected to be kayaking near Isle au Haut, Maine.
Grabowski indicated his cell phone was out of power and that he had not energized his VHF radio to make his scheduled check in.
