On October 28, 2013, the DDG 1000 guided-missile destroyer was launched at the Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine. The high-tech stealth destroyer, part of the new Zumwalt class, features limited superstructure and special panels to give it minimal radar signature. Three Zumwalt destroyers are planned.
Large ships are launched in Bath by first transferring the vessel to a floating dry dock, which then moves to the center of the Kennebec River. Under the cloak of darkness, the dry dock submerges and the ship floats free.

On a side note, the New England Boating TV crew was in Bath this summer as the finishing touches were being put on the ship. As you might imagine, all the cameras attracted the attention of security personnel. We were not arrested, but told to shoot elsewhere.
