Newburyport News: A dock on the Newburyport [Massachusetts] waterfront suffered extensive damage last night (Monday, October 29) after it was caught underneath The Prince of Whales, which was being tossed around like a rag doll by extraordinarily rough waters on the Merrimack River fueled by Hurricane Sandy.

At around 9:30 p.m. Newburyport Police and harbor officials rushed to secure the 100’ whale-watching boat, which grinded against the dock each time it rose with the waves. Initially officials wanted to untie the boat and move it further down river where it could be safely moored, but that was determined to be unfeasible and dangerous.
