According to the Suffolk Times, the decommissioned 134’ fireboat used by the New York City Fire Department from 1938 until 2010 and which served as a waterfront attraction in Greenport Village for the past year, will be leaving Greenport on February 28, 2014.

“The big, red fireboat was a welcome sight for many, celebrated for its history and for the educational opportunities it would bring. Fire Fighter was to serve as that large, historic attraction that seems to be docked in many an established port town,” writes the Times in a recent editorial.

The Times story did not reveal where the fireboat was going.
