Roughly 850 residents of Kittery, Maine, have petitioned the town not to demolish the Wood Island Lifesaving Station, according to an article in the Portland Press Herald.
The rescue station, built in 1908, has fallen into severe disrepair, and the residents are asking that it be turned over to the Wood Island Lifesaving Station Association so it can be restored and turned into a museum.
