Photo courtesy Audubon Connecticut/AJ Hand. A state-owned boat launch known as Craven’s Landing is closed and 2 other beaches have areas roped off because of nesting piping plovers and least terns, [Sandwich’s] assistant director of natural resources said Monday.

At Craven’s Landing off North Shore Boulevard, a parking area is roped off to protect the endangered bird species, but the area is not completely closed, David DeConto said. Foot traffic is allowed and those who can carry a canoe or kayak in are still able to launch into Scorton Creek near Cape Cod Bay, he said.
