On August 10, 2013, the sailboat Merry Wing will be relaunched at the Jones River Landing in Kingston, Massachusetts, following its 3-year restoration. This Duxbury Duck is one of a historic class of vessels built by George Shiverick at his shop on the Jones River in 1928. The Duck has been restored in the same boat shop at Jones River Landing Environmental Heritage Center.

MerryWing_2The restoration has been taking place since 2008 on Wednesday evenings by Landing volunteers who have an interest in wooden boatbuilding or who just want to learn more about this maritime craft. Shiverick was a renowned and prolific builder who operated at the Landing from around 1895 to 1940.

The event will start at noon on August 10t at Jones River Landing located at 55 Landing Road in Kingston, Massachusetts, with a potluck-style reception followed at 2:00 by a dedication and launching ceremony on the high tide. All are welcome to attend.
