27East.com: A much-anticipated project to improve water quality at Havens Beach in Sag Harbor [New York] may be completed before the summer swim season, now that the State Department of Environmental Conservation has determined that muck from the site can be discarded at a local dump, Village Mayor Brian Gilbride said.

The estimated $200,000 to $250,000 project involves redeveloping and reconfiguring a 24,000-square-foot drainage ditch and related drainage system at the village-owned beach off Bay Street, a popular swimming spot that has suffered from elevated bacteria levels for years.
