Carrie Gentile of Martha’s Vineyard sent us this photo of the 1976 36’ Pearson ketch Running Free, which beached on Norton Point in early July (2013).
The ship had been drifting the Atlantic for months after her skipper was forced to abandon ship on a voyage from Florida to the United Kingdom in May. Crew from a nearby tanker plucked him off his boat when it became disabled in heavy seas.
The photos show TowBoatUS crew Jeff Daale and Mark Brown unsuccessfully attempting to drag the boat off the beach.
