A sailfish caught in the Cape Cod Canal Tuesday night (August 6, 2013) created a lot of excitement, according to a report in the Cape Cod Times.

Many reports originally claimed the fish was a white marlin. However, photos showed the fish was actually a sailfish. The fish was reported to be roughly 6’ and at least 60 pounds.

The fish was caught at a popular spot on the canal known as Murderer’s Row by Justin Sprague, 29, of Ashland, Massachusetts. Sprague said after hooking the fish, it began jumping out of the water. Two other fishermen helped him pull it ashore. They tried to save the fish, but they were unable to revive it.
