Block Island Times: High tides, storm surges and heavy winds hammered Block Island during Hurricane Sandy’s day-long assault Monday [October29], stealing away huge chunks of dune, seriously undermining 2 coastal roads and damaging seaside businesses, but no one was hurt and of the estimated 100 homes that lost power, almost all had it restored within two days.

“We came out better than at one point I thought we would,” said Town Manager Nancy Dodge Tuesday morning.
