Massachusetts officials are forecasting sustained winds generated by Hurricane Sandy to be 40 to 50 mph with gusts from 60 to 80 mph. The storm surge could be 3’ to 6’ by Monday evening.

The hurricane barrier in New Bedford Harbor is operational. The Army Corps reports the barrier could close as early as 5:00 a.m. Monday morning. This information is subject to change. It is possible that the barrier may not reopen until after the storm has passed.

The Port of New Bedford urges recreational boaters to remove their vessels from the water. Owners of recreational vessels that cannot be removed from the water and desire a mooring or berth should contact the Port immediately.
