Patriot Ledger: A proposal to close a portion of Stellwagen Bank to recreational fishing won’t come up for a binding vote until at least September , but local fishermen say talks at an upcoming meeting could ultimately impact federal policy.
The New England Fishery Management Council will decide next week whether to include closing 55 square miles of Stellwagen Bank to recreational and charter-boat ground fishing as an option in its proposal for protecting and researching fish habitats. The federal government will use the finished proposal to set fishery management policies, such as closure implementation.
