The town of Warren, Rhode Island has dropped a controversial plan to tighten regulations on development near wetlands. But the plan might not be dead yet.

According to an article on, Warren Town Planner Caroline Wells decided to drop the changes not in response to the opponents, but to internal changes at the state Department of Environmental Management that made the proposal unnecessary. However, she said that part of the changes she’d pushed for will still be considered when the town dusts off and reworks its Comprehensive Community Plan over the next several months.
